Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County Volunteer Committee

Type of Volunteer Work:

We've all said it and heard it: everybody wants to "pound nails" and we can't find enough people to serve on committees. Yet, without strong, well functioning committees, no affiliate can sustain a long-term house building and community building effort.

The Basic Operating Committees are:

  1. Church Relations Committee
  2. Construction Committee
  3. Family Selection Committee
  4. Family Support Committee
  5. Marketing & Development Committee
  6. Site Selection Committee
  7. Volunteer Relations Committee

Construction Site Opportunities

During a “Build” Habitat construction work sites operate mostly on Saturdays.

Skilled Volunteers – Electricians, Plumbers, Carpentry, Framing, Dry Wall, Roofing, Flooring, General Construction Contractors, Machine Operators.

Non-Skilled Volunteers – Volunteers willing to learn and work with Habitat-provided crew leader.

Individuals/Groups – You may volunteer just once or as often as you wish. Please provide your phone number and email so that the “site coordinator” can contact you.

What to Bring – Each volunteer should bring a set of basic tools: hammer, nail apron, tape measure, and a pencil. If you have other basic tools, for example a utility knife, gloves, etc. you may wish to bring them. Please label all of your tools with your name.

Kids & Construction – To help ensure a safe work environment, construction volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Teens, 16 & 17, may work on a construction site provided they have parental permission. Those under 18 must not use power tools, climb ladders, or work on scaffolding or the roof.

Community Service – Individuals who have community service requirements can perform their hours at Habitat. For Habitat to provide documentation of service, prior arrangements must be made.

Release of Liability – Each year, every Habitat volunteer must sign a Release of Liability form agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries on the job. Most individuals have a personal health insurance plan that covers them while engaged in volunteer work. However, you should verify your coverage prior to coming to the work site.

Arrival on the Site – All volunteers must sign in when they arrive. The Habitat Site Coordinator will assign tasks and direct volunteers to their assignment.
